Ying Li is a graduate from The University of Western Australia with a Master degree in Chemical Engineering. Her research work is focused on early detection on membrane fouling using low-cost and mobile nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Membrane fouling is a vital issue in desalination operation whilst deviation in pressure-drop has been monitored to reflect fouling within membrane module; however only insignificant deviation in pressure-drop is detectable for then leads to a delay in responding to the onset of fouling. In her work, she aims to demonstrate low-field NMR is capable to do localised detect early stage of fouling non-invasively meanwhile validating the sensitivity of NMR against industrial pressure-drop approach.
