LNG Futures Director Professor Eric May recently travelled to Korea to sign a MOU with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). This follows on from meetings earlier this year when an HHI a delegation from visited LNG Futures facilities at UWA to discuss areas of collaboration. The MOU gives LNG Futures and HHI a platform to collaborate on LNG focussed R&D. Specifically HHI have committed funding (~$200k) for the next phase of the LNG Futures Facility project.
This is a significant step for the LNG Futures Facility project. The next phase for the LNG futures Facility is to complete a Function Specification and Front End Engineering Design (FEED). This will provide enough detail and costing to allow a final investment decision for the project to be made.
The LNG Futures Facility is a microscale LNG plant for training, research and technology demonstration purposes. It recently featured as a proposed Testlab in the Government’s Industry 4.0 Taskforce Report.
We are currently seeking funding from our Industry Partners to fund this phase. Ultimately HHI see themselves as a user of the LNG Futures Facility to demonstrate new gas processing technologies.
