14 July 2016. The UWA Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has been selected to receive the 2016 Outstanding Student Chapter Award. This prestigious award recognizes SPE student chapters with exceptional programs and is presented to less than 10% of chapters worldwide.
The award reflects ongoing efforts of the SPE UWA committee to continue to develop its activities in industry engagement, operations and planning, community involvement, professional development and innovation and builds on the Gold award they received in 2015.
UWA SPE president Corey Baker notes “This award is the highest International status you can achieve amongst the 360 SPE student chapters worldwide and we are the first in Australia/NZ to achieve this, so it is definitely quite the honour.”
Highlights of the UWA SPE calendar include twice yearly networking events allowing students to meet with industry professionals, technical lecture series presented by industry and also an annual field trip to the oil & gas sites located around Dongara in Western Australia.
